what a narcissist, having an actual illustration made of herself! (via: Oladayo Idowu)
THE BASICS
Cass grew up split between Brooklyn and Long Island suburbia. If that doesn’t make for a good identity crisis, her mother calls her Cass-AUND-ra and her father calls her Cass-AND-ra. You can just call her Cass. Her passion for writing kicked off at the tender age of 11 catfishing in AOL chatrooms. Lying about her A/S/L spun into a career in storytelling across multiple platforms (aka she’s also produced a podcast).
Having spent most of her adulthood straddling the desire to please people, and perform as “the strong one,” Cass now unpacks versions of that narrative, writing about the tension between ambition and exhaustion, over-functioning and unraveling from the lens of the burnout Black girl(boss) hiding behind aesthetics. Her storytelling is part curiosity and part naming what we’re taught to hide, because naming it together is how we learn to be our authentic selves. Or at least, get through life with a cheaper therapy bill.
Cass lives in Los Angeles, where she still keeps a MetroCard in her wallet. She has been staffed as a Writers’ Assistant on Generation (HBO Max) and Horrors of Dolores Roach s2 (Amazon), and in development mini rooms for FX, HBO, and Hulu.
